MOSCOW, October 16. /TASS/. Modernization of a pier at a Pacific Fleet base has allowed seven submarines to enter service over the past few years, Commander of the Pacific Fleet Submarine Forces Vice Admiral Vladimir Dmitriyev said.
He made the statement in a report to Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov as the minister was visiting the Kamchatka Region.
“This allowed the timely bringing into service of seven nuclear submarines, including five Borey class ballistic missile submarines and two Yasen class ones over the past few years,” the vice admiral said.
According to Dmitriyev, construction work is currently being carried out on 14 facilities to increase the length of the pier and significantly enhance combat capabilities of the fleet’s submarine forces. A representative of the Main Directorate for Special Construction at the Defense Ministry told the minister that the completion of all construction work on this site is scheduled for the summer of 2025.
“The updated infrastructure of the pier will provide the submarines with the necessary energy, communications, air and water supply, which will significantly reduce the wear of mechanisms and systems of vessels when they are docked at the base,” the ministry said.
